Unawatuna Bay and the deserted Dalawella beaches in the vicinity are wonderful, pristine beaches, resembling natural swimming pools about 9 km from town. Great places for snorkelling, scuba diving, jet skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing, sunbathing, sun tanning, and other activities, these beaches are highlights of Galle Beach Sri Lanka. Kaluwella is a tranquil, deserted beach with clean black sand, located 4 km from town.

A somnolent but splendid old town on the southwest coast of the magical isle, formerly the capital of Ceylon, featured a natural harbour during the Portuguese period. The British later moved the capital to Colombo. In addition to the dazzling beaches at Unawatuna Bay and Kaluwella’s black sand shore, Galle Beach Sri Lanka offers attractions such as the Madhu River for boat excursions into nature and natural turtle farms along the shores.

The Galle Dutch Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a lively old township, is one of numerous attractions to visit. The Portuguese originally built the fort. The Dutch renovated it, and the British restored it. It features green ramparts, cannons, dungeons, stone bunkers, and park benches. Strolling down the stone-paved roads feels like being in Rome, with predominantly European architecture. The old-fashioned courtyards and sidewalks offer ample space to enjoy. Stone parapet walls define the ramparts, while massive perimeter walls protect against adversaries. There are dungeons built in the basements to contain trespassers or prisoners. On the green ramparts, canons are placed at strategic locations for defence purposes. From the eastern rampart, one can see the picturesque Galle International Cricket Stadium.
